Scarlets can confirm the signing of South African hooker Eduan Swart from Currie Cup side the Pumas.
With Ken Owens an injury absentee and Academy prospect Isaac Young sidelined with a foot issue, Swart has been brought in to bolster hooking resources at the club.
From Pretoria, the 23-year-old came through the ranks of the Blue Bulls before joining the Pumas, who have been one of the top sides in South Africa’s domestic competition in recent years.
Standing at 186cm and 115kg, Swart is a powerful ball-carrier who was a try-scorer in the Pumas’ 2022 Currie Cup final victory.
He linked up with the squad on Tuesday and has been signed until the end of the season with an option to extend his stay.
Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel said: “It’s been good to welcome Eduan to Parc y Scarlets. With our current injuries we needed to bring in another option at hooker and Eduan is a player who has impressed us with his performances for the Pumas during the Currie Cup.”
