Scarlets head to Bayonne for Challenge Cup opener

Rob LloydNews

Scarlets will kick-off their 2024-25 European Challenge Cup campaign away to French side Aviron Bayonnais.

The clubs last met two seasons ago when Dwayne Peel’s side completed the double over the Basque outfit on the way to the semi-finals.

The match will take place at the Stade Jean-Dauger on Saturday, December 7 (1pm kick-off UK time).

The Scarlets are home to Georgian side Black Lion in round two on Sunday, December 15 (1pm KO), looking to avenge their home loss last season.

Round three sees the Scarlets head across the Bridge for a mouthwatering Anglo-Welsh clash with last season’s beaten finalists Gloucester on Friday, January 10 (8pm).

The pool matches come to a conclusion with the visit of competition newcomers RC Vannes to Llanelli for the first time on Saturday, January 18.

Promoted from the French second tier, the Breton side include former Scarlets No. 8 Sione Kalamafoni in their ranks. S4C have been confirmed as the broadcaster for this match. Coverage of the other matches will be finalised in the coming weeks.
