Scarlets will be hosting a coach development seminar for all junior coaches in the region in the new year.
The event will take place on Wednesday, January 8 at University of Wales Trinity St David in Carmarthen from 7-9pm and will feature speakers such as World Rugby Director of Rugby Phil Davies, current Scarlets and Wales hooker Ryan Elias, who will be doing a Q and A, Scarlets Academy Pathway Manager Gareth Williams as well as talent ID professionals from other sports.
Scarlets Academy Pathway Manager Gareth Williams said: “It is the first time we have put an evening like this on as we look to make closer links with our junior clubs. It will be about introducing the junior coaches to how we want to work together in the future and also the support elements we would like to establish to do this.
““It promises to be an informative evening with Phil discussing the impact of junior coaching across the global game, Ryan talking about the impact of his junior coaches on his professional career, and coaching and talent ID insights from professionals from sports other than rugby.”
“Our aim is to get a strong turnout of junior coaches to come along and start a process we want to engage in more regularly as we appreciate the impact they have on our future talented players.”
All attending clubs will receive a coach support visit to their club to draw up a club specific support package for what the junior coaches feel they need.
“We want this event to be the start of our relationship with our junior club coaches, therefore I will visit each club in attendance and sit with their coaching teams in their own environments.
“The network across West Wales is the strength of our future and this is a start of regular engagement with the coaching population.”
