Dwayne Peel relishing Stormers challenge

Dwayne Peel says his Scarlets side are relishing the challenge of talking on a quality DHL Stormers side in the final round of the regular URC season at Parc y Scarlets on Saturday evening (5.10).

With the play-offs out of their grasp, the Scarlets are still battling for the Welsh Shield and Champions Cup qualification and need to outperform the Ospreys – who take on the Bulls in Swansea on Friday night.

“I have said before, one of our goals is to be top of the Welsh Shield and we have got that to play for this weekend,” said Peel ahead of the clash with the Cape Town-based franchise.

“It is slightly out of our hands with Ospreys playing on Friday, but we have prepped for having to win this game. We realise we have a difficult proposition coming to town, it is going to be a tough game, but one we are relishing.

“We have seen over the course of the season with the new format of the URC and the South African sides coming in, that it has added quality and we have seen how difficult the competition is. The standard has risen, it is exciting to have a side like the Stormers here. They have got good players who have played at the top end of the game.

“They have a quality pack, some big men, an international front row and big explosive players, you look at No. 8 Evan Roos, he is as good as anything in the competition. They are also very dangerous off turnover ball. If you give them ball cheaply and give them space and time they will punish you.

“We like to throw the ball around as well, but we need to be controlled in what we are doing.”

Scarlets will name their side on Friday at 12pm.
