Scarlets were guests for the official launch of the Phil Bennett Man of Steel exhibition at Llanelli’s Parc Howard museum.
Phil’s former Llanelli, Wales and British and Irish LIons team-mate, Scarlets president Derek Quinnell, together with current squad member Henry Thomas were in attendance, along with members of the Scarlets Sporting Memories group.
One of the all-time legends of the game and widely regarded as the greatest player to wear the Scarlets jersey, ‘Benny’ played 413 times for Llanelli RFC and was a member of the side that famously beat the mighty All Blacks at Stradey Park in 1972.
Phil worked at Duport as a teenager before going on to be a global rugby star.
The launch, attended by Phil’s family, saw the first public screening of ‘Men of Steel’ the story of Duport Steel and Llanelli rugby, a film produced by long-term Scarlets fan Robert Thomas.
There was also the launch of ‘Smashing Boundaries’ a campaign to uncover the stories of Carmarthenshire’s forgotten sportswomen.
The exhibition is being organised by Carmarthenshire County Council, in conjunction with the Scarlets and the Phil Bennett Foundation.
